A Tribute to Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo
We Belong celebrates Pat Benatar and her husband/guitar player Neil Giraldo. As a power duo that began in 1979 it's a deserving tribute to a couple that continues to pack venues today. Debbie and Mike Sierras have been married and performing together throughout Southern California for over 30 years making this a fitting tribute. We Belong was officially formed in the summer of 2015 and they had their debut concert at M15 in Corona in January of 2016. Their first year proved to be everything they had hoped for and more. In August of 2016 Debbie and Mike had the great privilege of meeting their mentors, Pat and Neil, when they performed in their home town of Temecula, CA. It was quite an honor as Pat and Neil wished them luck and provided them seats to their concert. That same month they had the honor of sharing the stage with Roger Capps, Pat and Neil's original bassist! As quoted by Roger "They have an amazing sound and style! One of the Best Tribs I've heard!!" Roger became a full time band member between 2017 and 2019 and is still a good friend of the band. They capped off 2016 by winning the Temecula Valley Music Awards Tribute band category.
Since 2016 We Belong has made a name in the tribute scene having performed at some of the best venues across Southern California as well as Arizona and Washington. Now in 2023 We Belong has teamed up with Avenue of the Stars and have plans to expand their shows to the rest of the country.
With Mike Higbie on his custom "Myron Grombacher" drum kit, Byron Yafuso on bass, and Christi Fisher on keyboards it's top notch entertainment at its best. Performing songs from Pat Benatar's 1979 debut album, through all of Pat's hits in the 80's, and into the 90's playing songs from Pat and Neil's blues album We Belong spans the decades taking their audience on a journey throughout Pat and Neil's entire career. Debbie and Mike played together for the first time in 1989 when Debbie sat in with Mike's band, Final Approach, singing Hit Me with Your Best Shot. They soon decided to start their own band and on New Year's eve 1990 they officially launched their cover band Bottomline with whom they still perform with to this day. They tied the knot on November 7th 1992 and have since raised 3 kids. They learned early on that Debbie had a knack for singing the blues and played nearly half of Pat and Neil's blues Album True Love not knowing it would help set the stage for them to start a tribute to Pat and Neil. They later added All Fired Up and Heartbreaker to Bottomline's repertoire furthering their backlog of Benatar songs which proved helpful in getting We Belong off the ground.
With Bottomline Debbie and Mike have performed throughout San Diego at some of the hottest clubs and casinos such as Harrah's Rincon, Viejas Casino, The Belly Up Tavern, Sea World, Park Place, The Bacchanal, and 100.7 Star Radio to name a few. For years they were booked solid in the club rotation between Carlsbad, Escondido, and Poway playing 2 and 3 nights a week cementing their on stage relationship.
In April of 2015 Mike surprised Debbie with tickets to see Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo on her birthday and after watching the show the idea came to them to start a tribute to Pat and Neil. "It was like looking in a mirror" they said as they watched Pat and Neil banter back and forth on stage and the "love looks" between the two were so familiar. Two month later with the help of their local musician friends We Belong was born and the rest as they say is history.
